MORE! Our Journey to “Jo Ma Lo Lue La”

no comments

We have just discovered that still more to get to the school (our final destination), we need to climb up to the mountain top!

Beautiful passage that connects village and their school, but it is very tough steep for us just after a long drive from BKK…

Our Journey to “Jo Ma Lo Lue La”

no comments
Early morning in ChiengMai. We have Driven all night to get here for the Donation Ceremony in the school.

Alvaro (Project Manager) is brushing his teeth by the canal and our coordinator Wit (graphic designer).

Another hour driving to reach our destination in deep forest.

Here we are, our destination, small village called “Jo Ma Lo Lue La”.

Donation/Re-Installation by TODA (Thailand) and trial NAKAMURA

no comments

Solar system was installed by TODA and trial NAKAMURA just before the official donation ceremony in the school.

Trial NAKAMURA designed the reused steel frame for 6 solar panels, and TODA assembled great team for transportation (700km distance, including walking up to mountain!) and installation for our solar system (Kyocera)

Thank you all great sponsors for being with us and helping most important and difficult part!!

Map of solar system destination

no comments

We only have a hand writing map to know where our donation solar system goes…

Can anyone tell us where?

Party is over

no comments

Removal is starting from 21:00pm today…

Thank you for all visitors to share the great fun event with ENERGY MEET!

We are going to recycle all these milk containers! and donate 300 servo motors, control panels and all wires to engineer students in KMUTT.

And more, we will bring steel frame and solar panels to local school where is no electricity in North part of Thailand.

Then the most important thing is, we have only produced tiny amount of garbage after this big event!

More Visitors!!

Praew has arrived with big smile! Now She is ready to activate the system perfectly!

Students have to make sure all circuit perfect dry!

Can not wait to see the MOVE!!!!!!

Break [Dry all circuit]

no comments

Necessity of dry all circuit, we need to leave ZIIB for whole day today.

That misfortune gives us little bonus “day off”.

All having rest today. I have never had this kind of quiet day for 2 months.

Donation Ceremony

no comments

Our donation was in one of the opening programs today!

We, ENERGY MEET and our great sponsor TODA meet principal of local school in north part of Thailand. We are going to donate solar panels to the school, that has no electricity in the area.

Opening Ceremony start

no comments

Opening Ceremony start without our baby, ZIIB…

Sudden Death

no comments

It starts to rain just before the opening ceremony, just after the last check…

Praew has just typed [enter] key to make sure all move well, and sudden HEAVY RAIN kills our ZIIB project,,, no one can imagine the heavy rain hit this timing in dry season…

We need to shut down all electric system for avoiding electric short now…

Last adjustment!

no comments

Xye, our Hero, Praew’s husband has visited our ZIIB and helping our problem from morning of the Opening.

And finally, 300 Milk containers start to move now!!!!

Oooops!

no comments

 Praew freezes suddenly…

There is no movement of 300 milk containers, even though the team double check the circuit!!

Tomorrow will be the opening day of BDF event…

Electric wiring is very difficult, Praew said, because electric is not visible. You can find out the bugs visually in computer program, but finding electric failure which is invisible is very difficult…

Try to find out the problem by re-wiring the whole circuit until late… until very late…

Wiring!

no comments

Wiring Diagram is carefully designed by Praew. FIBO Students are now start to process the wiring.

9 Control panels will be installed for 300 servo motors.

Control panel in lunchbox.

Now it is Dry season in Thailand, basically there is no rain at all during this season, but in case we are making it rain proof.

Finally,,, Under the Strong Sun

no comments

He is almost finishing the installation of 300 milk containers.

and finally, all 300 milk containers in line! and waiting for wiring now!

Location is the centre of business district of Bangkok.

Big team has arrived at the site!

no comments

They are from Robotics(FIBO/KMUTT), students of Praew. Their job for today is to assemble all electric circulation and make sure all 300 servo motors under the control panel.

Perfect Social Circulation

no comments

All Material from Sponsors gathers at ENERGY MEET, and our team assemble as ZIIB for BDF. After the event, we are going to recycle all milk containers, donate 300 servo motors, control panels and wires to FIBO/KMUTT, and donate solar panels, batteries and steel frame to local school. This flow diagram is visualized by Alvaro Conti, Project manager, who work until late almost everyday! You see him often in the pictures of our blog.

Under the Sun

no comments

This project is functioning with solar power. We need to locate ZIIB project under good and long sun light. But it means we have to work under the sun for the installation… Sun light during dry season in Thailand is very strong.

Boys work under the sun and girls works in shadow.

Milk container stars to sit on the frame now! Everybody is working quick and efficient. All are from FIBO/KMUTT. This well known faculty won many International Robot Competitions. No doubt, they are all good!

@23:30pm

Back Stage is Real Complex

no comments

The control system of the all wiring is designed by Praew and her team. Capacity of each control panel is for 40 servo motors. Physical milk location, wiring route and group of pulse pattern are all related to the system design. Oh… my headache…

More Wires and More Milk Containers…

no comments

Now, I realize that our decision of “LOW RESOLUTION”ness was RIGHT! Because 300 pixels are already dead hard to assemble, but possible to be done on time… We were thinking about 500pixels at the beginning, but all agreed that 300 (lower resolution) was the correct answer.

However, our production line never stop now.

LINING UP!

no comments

Very analog hard work to lining up the Milk Containers. Adjusting the angle, wind disturbs positioning and wiring complex gives us such a headache…

Press-review of BDF

no comments

We were invited for press-review of BDF. Brought our prototype at the venue and had many interview from Thai local media! And they like our concept.

Let me repeat our theme again,

01_Eco-project (no garbage after the event/recycled material)

02_Clean project (renewable energy from solar panel) (by Kyocera)

03_Function project (it is an information board)

04_Fun project (300 milk containers move) (by CP-Meiji)

05_Communication (text plus interactive movement)

06_Dedication (donate solar panel to local school) (by Thai TODA and Kyocera)

Waiting for dancing

no comments

Mass production line of milk containers with servo motor, like factory here. This is the final product that waiting for dancing in the big event, BDF soon! We need to make 300 of them. wanna help us?

Invisible Detail

no comments

Here is wooden stick which connects milk container and servo motor. It will be located in the central gravity of Milk Container.

Do you see this crazy detail?

no comments

There is small thin sticker on the wing of servo motor. Do you see it? This mark is very important to keep the axis of each milk container. You need to connect servo motor with the computer and activate the first move to reset the position, then you need to mark right angle of the wing for next process which is the physical assembly of milk containers. Oh… people in Robotics are crazy good!!

Never ending story?

no comments

Keep working on 300 milk containers with KMUTT students…

Thank you all! We will invite a big dinner kids!!

Thank you Mr.Taki!

no comments

Thank you Mr.Taki from Thai TODA Corporation! He designed the bracket for servo motor and it is PERFECT FIT!!!! I can not imagine that someone can design like this without precise drawing! We will assemble these 300 brackets and 300 milk containers with volunteer students and Captain Sam.

Captain SAM

no comments

Captain SAM is a student in faculty of robotics (FIBO) at KMUTT. I can not imagine that how hard to wire 300 of units and desig the control system in such a short time… and he is the man who try to achieve mission impossible with us now!!! Sorry that he has no weekend…

kool smile with big mountain of milk container… please keep that smile until the end of the mission!

Groove of ENERGY MEET

Meeting with Kyocera (Solar Panel) and Solar Power (Thai local electric company). Discussion about power specs and its cost. We found that solar panel could supply very little amount of juice… humm… however we have full of ambitious and motivations…

slides of ZIIB, Zero-Impact Interactive Billboard and engineers from Kyocera and Solar Power!

Praew is explaining how 300 milk containers positioned in frame and it’s wiring method.

CP-Meiji Corporation is now with us!

no comments

Meiji Milk Company gave us 300 of 5L containers!!! We will use this RECYCLABLE material. It looks so cute, when it lines up on the frame and spin 180 degree!

Volunteer KMUTT students are joining for our project. Here many of them gather and cut out the opening for servo motor attachment.

Coolest woman, I have ever met

no comments

When I had arrived Praew’s office for the meeting, She was sitting calm in front of her laptop that connected 20 servo motors! And those motors moved organic shake, wiggle and made wave move! I let her design the movement of milk container now. She is the coolest woman I have ever met…

Kyocera is now with us!

no comments

Our ENERGY(electricity) will be produced by Kyocera Solar Panel.

We have just received 12 modules of Solar Panels! This P.V. will be used for our project during the event, Bangkok Design Festival, and these will be donated to local primary school where is no electricity in Thailand.

we thank Kyocera that brings light to poor region and TODA (Japanese contractor) that will transport the solar panels to the local after the event!!

Here is the local school info!

http://soblarn.org/home/

This school is introduced by Lexie, who is coordinator of BDF. She is also great partner of this ZIIB. Without her, we have no chance to publicize ourselves in Bangkok, Thailand!

Transformation

no comments

Computer rendering represents the sequence of ZIIB. ZIIB functions as billboard during the event, and the structure and solar panel will be re-assembled into shelter shape with solar panel on top. This shelter will be donated to local school in Thailand that has no electricity.

Thai TODA Corporation LTD is now with us!

no comments

Our crazy idea that lining up 300 milk containers on grid for Pixel billboard, will be supported by the Frame which is provided by Thai TODA Corporation! Mr. Taki from TODA dedicate himself to help our ZIIB project! This frame will be 9M long 3M high billboard.

First trial of wiring the milk container

no comments

Using Oil container (still under the negotiation with Meiji Milk Company, asking 300 containers from them) to assemble the first prototype in Praew’s Lab in FIBO/KMUTT

The frame will be SHELTER!

no comments

The frame that support 300 milk containers during BDF event, will be a shelter with solar panel on the roof top.  9 meter long billboard frame will be separated into 3 pieces (each frame is 3 meter long) and re-assemble into cubic shape for shelter. Thai TODA is now working on this detail design.

Quick Sketch

Sketch from the most productive meeting. Our team brought many ideas about assembly detail of milk, motor, wire, bracket and main frames. This is one of the messy but meaningful sketches from the session today.

Praew, she is our legend computer engineer!

Featured 6 major topics of ZIIB

01_Eco-project (no garbage after the event/recycled material)

02_Clean project (renewable energy from solar panel/Kyocera)

03_Function project (it is an information board)

04_Fun project (300 milk containers move/Meiji)

05_Communication (text plus interactive movement)

06_Dedication (donate solar panel to local school)(Thai TODA and Kyocera)

What we are going to make is the billboard (low resolution) that formed by 300 milk containers, and each milk containers spins by computer system that designed by our legend female friend Praew, from FIBO/KMUTT, local University in Thailand!

beautiful idea sketch from her (Praew) note

Social Link

no comments

ZIIB is not only information billboard, but also the light of the future. Solar Panel that charges our battery for ZIIB will be donated to local elementary school in North part of Thailand after the event, and ALL material will be Recycle or Reuse as well.

The sketch try to figure out the relationship of “commercial” “event” “portability” “material” “donation” “logistics” etc. I used to design something physical, but this kind of design of Social Link is very new experience to me, and excited!

Milk Container is Recyclable Material!

no comments

Our Billboard has 300 pixels and we have been looking for the right material for it. We do not want to waste any material after the event. All material has to be recyclable or reusable, never be wasted. And Milk Container is RECYCLABLE!!

How can we make 300 milk containers spin? How does it look like?

LOW RESOLUTIONness

no comments

Low resolution Information Billboard for BDF(Bangkok Design Festival). The sketch is to find out the right scale of LOW RESOLUTIONness. Because we are planning to use milk carton or container for the pixel, and each of them has to be controlled by servo motor. Try not to make too much pieces, because of the limited budget.

about ZIIB and our sponsor logo

no comments

ZIIB (Zero Impact Interactive billboard) engage various groups co-operatively to produce an inventive, public, interactive billboard that can contribute to and reflect the atmosphere of the BDF event. A successful collaboration between all participants will contribute to an emotional and memorable public experience, allowing the benefits for all those involved to exceed the duration of the event. The proposal is environmentally and economically conscious benefitting the reputation of all participants involved in its production.

energy meet is here!

no comments

We are ENERGY MEET, have just launched the first E.M. project called ZIIB (Zero Impact Interactive Billboard) for Bangkok Design Festival 2010!

There are so many garbage after event. Not only Design event, all kind of event is producing large amount of garbage after it.

I used to produce it a lot, in terms of make look good just for 10days and cheap!

But this time, we decide not to repeat this!

We will unveil ZIIB little by little here in our blog!
